The story behind the controversial hate crime that divided the Nation will hit theaters and VOD in February

Gravitas Ventures has acquired North American rights to Bomb City, which has received several film fest accolades including two awards from the Nashville Film Festival (Audience Award, Best Actor) as well as “Best Narrative” honors from the Dallas International Film Festival. As timely now as it was when it made headlines 20 years ago, the crime-drama, about the cultural aversion of a group of punk rockers in a conservative Texas town, will be released in select theaters and everywhere on demand February 9.

Vice has partnered with the filmmaking team to premiere the trailer on December 12, the 20th anniversary of the event that inspired Bomb City.

Winter 1997. Amarillo, Texas. Brian Deneke (Dave Davis, “The Walking Dead”) is known for his green mohawk and undying passion for punk music. He throws punk shows with his friends at a rundown venue known as “Bomb City.” And Brian, along with many of his fellow “punks,” refuses to conform to the conservative culture that surrounds them. Their radical appearances stir social intolerance within the community, particularly with Cody Cates (Luke Shelton, The Grounds), a high school jock who assimilates to a pack known as “white-hatters.” After losing a football game, Cody and a few other white-hatters have an altercation with several of the punks. This conflict ignites a series of hostile encounters between the two groups, climaxing one evening with a horrific, violent street fight. The night would soon become notorious for being one of the most controversial hate crimes in modern American culture.

Producer Major Dodge shared “We are so excited to launch the trailer on December 12th and release the film on February 9th with Gravitas, marking the 20 year anniversary of the event. Even though it happened so long ago, it is a story that is more relevant now than ever.”

“Watching Bomb City, you’ll find yourself on a roller coaster of emotions, ultimately questioning the very morality of America’s justice system,” said Gravitas Ventures’ Manager of Acquisitions, Zach Hamby. “Jameson Brooks’ feature film debut is as powerful as they get.”

The deal for Bomb City was negotiated by Zach Hamby on behalf of Gravitas and by Michael Weiss of Abrams Garfinkel Margolis Bergson, LLP, on behalf of the filmmakers.

Jameson Brooks directed and co-wrote his feature film debut. Sheldon R Chick collaborated on the script and Produced. Bomb City was produced and executive produced by Major Dodge. Other Executive Producers include Steve Silver, Libby Hunt, Chad Cunningham, Norman Preskitt, Mark Rosenberg, Matt Chiasson, and Henry Melton.
